What is the DELE C2 and who needs it?

The DELE C2 is the highest official Spanish diploma from the Instituto Cervantes. It certifies mastery: communicating effectively in any situation and adapting to each context with precision and nuance.

  • Level: C2 of the Common European Framework (CEFR).
  • Skills tested: reading, listening, writing and speaking, often combined in the same task.
  • Validity: the diploma doesn’t expire.

Students usually take the C2 for academic or professional reasons, or as a personal challenge after the C1. Check the requirements of the institution that asks for the certificate first.

DELE C2 level: what you should be able to do

At C2 you can:

  • Understand practically everything you hear or read, including implicit and cultural meaning.
  • Summarise and reformulate information from several sources.
  • Express yourself spontaneously, fluently and precisely, with subtle shades of meaning.
  • Adapt your register and style to any situation.

Is your Spanish ready for the DELE C2?

The usual starting point is a solid C1. You speak with ease, but you want more precision, richer vocabulary and consistency in complex writing.

Not there yet? Check my DELE C1 preparation page. Not sure? Book a trial lesson and I’ll give you an honest assessment.

DELE C2 exam structure: the three tests you will practise

The C2 has three tests, and two of them combine skills.

2. Integrated skills: listening and reading comprehension, and written expression and interaction3 tasks150 min
3. Integrated skills: reading comprehension, and oral expression and interaction3 tasks: a presentation, an interview about it and a conversation on press headlines20 min + 30 min preparation

How the DELE C2 is scored and what you need to pass

The maximum score is 100 points. You need to pass each of the three tests: a minimum of 20 points in each one (60% of its points). The result is pass or fail.

What our DELE C2 preparation includes

1-on-1 live classes on Google Meet

One hour, just you and me, entirely in Spanish. We choose times that fit you, with no fixed calendar.

Strategy for the integrated skills tasks

The hardest part of the C2 is combining skills: reading or listening to several sources, and then writing or speaking about them. We practise:

  • Extracting the key points from different sources quickly.
  • Synthesising without copying.
  • Organising a clear answer in the time you have.

Writing feedback on structure, register and word count

I correct your texts personally, using the logic of the official criteria. We work on:

  • Structure and coherence: clear organisation of ideas.
  • Register: adapted to the type of text.
  • Word count: the official exam asks you to respect the required length strictly, so we practise writing to the limit.

Advanced vocabulary, connectors and natural expressions

I share my own materials: precise vocabulary, connectors, idiomatic expressions and typical weak points. We use them in class and you review them at home.

Full mock exam under timed conditions

Before the exam, we do a timed mock exam. I mark it and we review it together. See our DELE practice exam page.

How to prepare for the DELE C2: tips for each test

Use of language, reading and listening: accuracy over speed

  • At C2, small details decide the answer. Read instructions and options carefully.
  • Work on collocations, register and precise vocabulary, not only grammar.
  • Listen to long, demanding material: debates, lectures and radio.

Integrated written tasks: summaries, synthesis and register

  • Use the sources: identify the key ideas and reformulate them with your own words.
  • Plan before writing: five minutes of outline saves rewriting.
  • Respect the number of words and the type of text.
  • Check your text for consistency of register.

Oral test: using your preparation time and speaking with precision

  • Use the preparation time for a clear structure, not a script.
  • Speak naturally and develop your ideas.
  • Show range: varied vocabulary and structures, with control.

How long does it take to prepare for the DELE C2?

It depends on your starting level, your weekly time and your date. I won’t give you a magic number. At this level, progress comes from precise feedback and regular work, not from many hours of general study.

An example preparation plan

  • First weeks: level check, analysis of weak points and a first look at each test.
  • Middle weeks: practice by test, with detailed writing and speaking corrections.
  • Final weeks: timed integrated tasks, mock exam and review of repeated mistakes.

How many hours a week do you need?

One or two lessons a week plus study between classes is a realistic base. If the exam is near, we raise the frequency. After the level check I’ll recommend a rhythm.

Mistakes that cost points in the DELE C2

  • Not respecting the word count. It can cost marks in written tasks.
  • Copying from the sources. Reformulate and synthesise.
  • A text that sounds learned but not natural. Precision beats complexity.
  • Wrong register for the type of text.
  • Running out of time in the long integrated test.
  • Reading the oral answer instead of speaking.

1-on-1 classes or a self-study programme: which suits you?

Self-study programmes (videos, exercises, group calls) can be a good, cheaper base if you are disciplined and your Spanish is already very strong.

But at C2, the main gap is rarely information. It is feedback on your own writing and speaking: what exactly costs you points, and how to fix it.

Choose 1-on-1 classes if:

  • You want personal correction of your texts and your spoken answers.
  • You have a close exam date and need a plan.
  • You want to practise the integrated tasks with an examiner.

If self-study fits you better, that’s fine. Many students combine both. I’m also recording a video course; you can join the waitlist.

Why prepare for the DELE C2 with a certified examiner

I’m Cristina, a native Spanish teacher from Spain.

  • DELE examiner certified by the Instituto Cervantes.
  • Master’s degree in teaching Spanish as a foreign language (Universidad de La Rioja).
  • More than five years teaching individual and group classes.

I know what examiners look for and where candidates lose points, so every lesson works on what raises your mark.

Frequently asked questions about DELE C2 preparation

What is the DELE C2 and who takes it?

The DELE C2 is the highest official Spanish diploma from the Instituto Cervantes. It certifies mastery: communicating effectively in any situation and adapting to each context with precision and nuance. Students usually take it for academic or professional reasons, or as a personal challenge after the C1.

What level do I need before preparing for the DELE C2?

A solid C1. You speak with ease, but you want more precision, richer vocabulary and consistency in complex writing. If you’re not there yet, my DELE C1 preparation is the right step. The trial lesson gives you an honest assessment.

What are the three tests of the DELE C2?

Use of language with reading and listening comprehension (105 minutes), an integrated test with written expression (150 minutes) and an integrated test with oral expression (20 minutes plus 30 minutes of preparation). In class we practise all three under real timing.

Why are the integrated tasks the hardest part?

Because you must handle several sources and then write or speak about them, in limited time, with precision and the right register. Most points are lost there. We practise extracting key points, synthesising without copying and organising a clear answer.

Does the length of the written text matter in the DELE C2?

Yes. The official exam asks you to respect the required length strictly, so we practise writing to the limit. I also give you feedback on structure, register and coherence, personally and with the official criteria in mind.

How is a 1-on-1 class different from a self-study video course?

A video course can be a good, cheaper base if you’re disciplined. But at C2 the gap is rarely information. It’s feedback on your own writing and speaking: what exactly costs you points and how to fix it. With me you get personal correction and a plan from a certified DELE examiner.

How long does it take to prepare for the DELE C2?

It depends on your starting level, your weekly time and your exam date, so I won’t give you a magic number. At this level, progress comes from precise feedback and regular work, not from many hours of general study. After the level check I’ll recommend a rhythm.

Is the DELE C2 hard?

Yes, it’s the highest level and demands precision, range and control. With a clear method and personal feedback it’s a realistic goal for a strong C1 student.

Can you guarantee I will pass the DELE C2?

No. What I can promise is a clear method, honest feedback from a certified examiner and practice with every task before the day. The result also depends on your work and on exam day.

How much does your DELE C2 preparation cost?

A single lesson costs €28, and packs of 10 or 20 lower the price per lesson. The trial lesson with a level diagnosis lasts 30 minutes and costs €10. The exam fee is not included. See the pricing page for details.
