What is the DELE A2 exam?
The DELE A2 is an official Spanish diploma issued by the Instituto Cervantes. It certifies a basic user of Spanish: someone who can understand and use commonly used everyday phrases and expressions about things that matter to them, such as personal and family information, shopping, places of interest and work.
- Level: A2 of the Common European Framework (CEFR).
- Skills: reading, listening, writing and speaking.
- Organiser: Instituto Cervantes, on behalf of the Spanish Ministry of Education.
- Validity: the diploma does not expire.
Who takes the DELE A2 and why
Most of my students take it for one of these reasons:
- To meet an official requirement, such as an application for Spanish nationality.
- To prove their level for studies or work.
- To have an official certificate of their progress and keep studying with a clear goal.
Check the requirements of the institution that asks for your certificate before choosing the level.
DELE A2 vs DELE A2 escolar: which one do you need?
There are two versions. The standard DELE A2 is for adults. The DELE A2/B1 Escolar is designed for school-age learners.
This page, and my classes, are for the standard DELE A2 for adults.
What level of Spanish do you need for the DELE A2?
You should be able to understand and use simple everyday phrases, introduce yourself and talk about familiar things in short sentences. If you have finished A1 and are close to A2, we can start. My lessons are fully in Spanish, adapted to your level.
Not sure? The trial lesson tells us.
DELE A2 exam structure: the tests you will practise
The exam tests the four skills in separate tests. Each has its own tasks and timing, and we practise all of them in class.
Reading comprehension
You read texts of different types and answer questions. We work on how to find the information fast and avoid the traps in the answers.
Listening comprehension
You listen to recordings and answer. We train your ear with tasks similar to the exam, and teach you how to use the reading time before each audio.
Written expression and interaction
You write texts on given situations. This is where most students lose points, so we practise structure, connectors and register, with corrections.
Oral expression and interaction
You speak with the examiner and complete tasks. We practise the format until it feels natural, including how to keep going when you forget a word.
| Test | Group | Tasks | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reading comprehension | 1 | 5 tasks | 60 min |
| Written expression and interaction | 1 | 2 tasks | 50 min |
| Listening comprehension | 2 | 5 tasks | 35 min |
| Oral expression and interaction | 2 | Oral tasks | 15 min |
How the DELE A2 is scored and what you need to pass
The result is pass or fail. The maximum is 100 points, and you need at least 30 points in each of the two groups of tests.

What our DELE A2 preparation includes
1-on-1 live classes on Google Meet
One hour, just you and me. Lessons are in Spanish, adapted to your level. No fixed timetable: we choose days and times that fit you, unlike group courses with set dates.
Task-by-task strategy and time management
Each class takes one or more exam tasks. I explain:
- What the task asks for.
- How to divide your time.
- Which phrases to use.
- What the typical mistakes are.
Writing corrections and speaking feedback from a DELE examiner
I correct your written tasks and your spoken answers using the same logic examiners apply. You get a clear list of what to fix and what you already do well.
Self-study platforms can’t do this. Human feedback is what moves a A2 student from “almost” to “ready”.
A2 vocabulary, simple connectors and common mistakes
I share my own materials: useful expressions for each task, simple connectors to link ideas and a list of typical errors. We use them in class, and you review them at home.
Mock exam before the real one
Before the exam, we do a timed mock exam. I mark it and we review it together. See also our DELE practice exam page.
How our DELE A2 preparation works
Level check and exam date
We talk about your goal and your exam date, and I check your current Spanish. This tells us if the date is realistic.
Personalised study plan
You get a plan with priorities per skill, weekly topics and what to do between classes.
Weekly classes with homework and feedback
Each class mixes exam practice, corrections and language work. You get homework, and I review it in the next lesson.
Mock exam and final review
A timed mock exam, marked by me. We then review results, fix the last weak points and prepare your strategy for exam day.

Why prepare for the DELE A2 with a certified examiner
I’m Cristina, a native Spanish teacher from Spain.
- DELE examiner certified by the Instituto Cervantes.
- Master’s degree in teaching Spanish as a foreign language (Universidad de La Rioja).
- More than five years teaching individual and group classes.
I know what examiners look for, so I don’t waste your time on what doesn’t matter for the exam. And my classes are a safe space where mistakes are part of the process.
What students say about our DELE preparation
25 reviews
The classes with Cristina are very well prepared. My focus is on taking the DELE test; in each class she brings a different topic to analyse and explains how to do each task of the test and how long each task takes. I am very happy with her classes.
She shares her own materials that make it very clear how to approach any task: common expressions, connectors, typical mistakes to watch out for. Thanks to the classes with her, I feel confident that I will face the DELE C1 exam without stress.
She adapts each lesson to my goals and always asks what I want to focus on. She gives useful corrections, detailed feedback and shares useful tips and materials. Edit: I successfully passed my DELE A2 exam! Thank you, Cristina!

Frequently asked questions about DELE A2 preparation
What is the DELE A2 and who is it for?
The DELE A2 is an official Spanish diploma from the Instituto Cervantes that certifies a basic user: someone who can understand and use commonly used everyday phrases and expressions. People take it for official procedures such as a Spanish nationality application, for study or work reasons, or to have an official certificate of their progress. Check the requirements of the institution that asks for it.
What level of Spanish do I need before starting the preparation?
A good A1 and some A2 skills. You should follow slow, simple Spanish and say short sentences about yourself, your day and familiar things. If you’re close but not sure, the trial lesson will tell us whether to start now or reinforce the basics first.
What is the difference between the DELE A2 and the DELE A2 escolar?
They are two versions of the exam. The standard DELE A2 is for adults, and the DELE A2/B1 Escolar is designed for school-age learners. My classes prepare the standard DELE A2 for adults.
What tests does the DELE A2 have?
It tests the four skills: reading comprehension, listening comprehension, written expression and interaction, and oral expression and interaction. In class we practise all of them with real exam tasks and timing.
How does your DELE A2 preparation work?
We start with a level check and your exam date. Then I make a personalised plan, and we have weekly one-to-one classes on Google Meet with homework and feedback. Before the exam we do a timed mock exam that I mark. We choose days and times that fit you, with no fixed course calendar.
What do I get that I wouldn’t get from a self-study platform?
Human feedback. A platform can mark reading and listening, but it can’t properly correct your writing or your speaking. I do, using the logic of the official criteria, and I tell you what to fix first. I’m a DELE examiner certified by the Instituto Cervantes, so that feedback comes from someone who knows the exam.
Is the DELE A2 hard?
It’s demanding if you don’t know the format and manageable when you do. Most of the difficulty is in the writing and speaking tasks, where timing and structure matter as much as grammar. That’s why we practise each task type under real conditions.
How long does it take to prepare for the DELE A2?
It depends on your starting level, how often you study and your exam date. I won’t give you a magic number. After the level check I’ll give you a realistic estimate and a plan to fit your date.
Is the exam fee included in the preparation?
No. You register and pay the exam fee separately with the Instituto Cervantes or an authorised centre. I’ll help you choose the level and the right moment to register.
How much does your DELE A2 preparation cost?
A single lesson costs €28, and packs of 10 or 20 lower the price per lesson. The trial lesson with a level diagnosis lasts 30 minutes and costs €10. See the pricing page for details.
